Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Japan
Company Overview
This position is with one of the world’s leading fintech platform companies driving innovation in the financial services sector. As the company accelerates its expansion and strengthens its foundation in Japan, they are seeking a visionary and highly capable Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the Japanese entity. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in securities and financial brokerage operations, alongside outstanding specialization in regulatory compliance.
Position Purpose
The CEO will hold full responsibility for the strategy, operations, and P&L of the Japan business. A critical mandate of this role is to champion and fortify the integrity of the firm’s regulatory compliance framework. Specifically, you will be tasked with enhancing regulatory capabilities, building robust relationships of trust with Japanese regulatory authorities (Financial Services Agency and Japan Securities Dealers Association), and ensuring thorough resolution and closure of all internal, external, and regulatory audit findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Formulate mid-to-long-term business growth strategies for the Japanese market, and establish a solid revenue base in close collaboration with the global headquarters.
- Regulatory Relationship Management: Build open and strong relationships of trust with regulatory authorities and industry bodies, including the Financial Services Agency (JFSA), Local Finance Bureaus, and the Japan
- Securities Dealers Association (JSDA), while centrally managing all communications as the firm’s representative.
- Strengthening Compliance & Governance: Advance internal controls, compliance, and risk management frameworks to fundamentally enhance the company’s regulatory resilience.
- Leading Audit Responses: Swiftly formulate and execute remediation plans directed at root-cause resolution for any audit points raised during regulatory inspections, as well as internal or external audits, ensuring they are successfully closed.
- Organizational Management & Culture Creation: Foster a robust corporate culture with high compliance awareness, and drive the recruitment, development, and engagement of the local team.
Required Qualifications (Must-Have)
- Financial & Brokerage Experience: 10+ years of experience in senior management, executive director, or C-suite roles within securities firms, Japanese subsidiaries of foreign brokerages, or online securities/brokerage platforms.
- Strong Regulatory Background: Deep knowledge of the Japanese Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA), with a proven track record of directly leading responses to inquiries and inspections from authorities such as the JFSA and JSDA.
- Track Record in Audit & Remediation: Demonstrated experience in formulating and executing concrete remediation plans in response to audit findings (Audit Points) or business improvement orders, including reporting processes to the regulatory authorities.
