Singapore has been experiencing a declining birth rate, reaching a historic low of 0.97 in 2024. This poses a threat to the country’s economy due to the constricting impact on its workforce. A huge 83% of Singaporean employers in 2025 have already reported significant challenges in finding skilled talent.

 

The SaaS talent market in Singapore is particularly impacted. Manpower reported that information technology is among the most affected sectors, with 88% of employers reporting skilled tech talent shortages. HR Drive also mentioned that 53% of SaaS employers are having difficulties in finding talent for data science and engineering positions.

Enterprise adoption of AI climbed from 34% in 2022 to 46% in 2024. What’s more, over 70% of companies are now actively using AI to enhance their operations. Software engineering skills are critical for designing and developing software applications. The current spike in demand for these skills is driven by companies needing AI offerings developed or integrated into their existing solutions.

 

AI Skills

AI skills include critical thinking, communication, and ethical awareness to understand, utilise, and develop AI systems. More companies are implementing AI and machine learning for their business processes. Singapore’s national AI strategy is also set to increase the AI workforce.

 

Data Science Skills

These skills include the use of programming languages to collect, analyse, and interpret data to offer data-driven solutions to businesses. The demand for data science skills grew in Singapore in part due to the country’s rise to becoming one of the fourth-largest internet data centers in APAC.

 

FinTech Skills

One of the top skills in the SaaS talent market in Singapore is Fintech. It includes understanding programming languages, blockchain familiarity, and data analysis. The Singapore FinTech Association conducted a survey that showed 94% of companies are aiming to grow their fintech talent base within the next 12 months.

 

Cybersecurity Skills

This includes knowledge of cloud security, coding, and penetration testing to identify, locate, and respond to cyber threats. BlueVoyant said that Singapore has increased its investment in cyber-risk management by 90% – even higher than the global average.
